Contemporary Art since the 1980's
Galerie Gisela Capitain, based in Cologne, Germany was founded in 1986 and is focused on Contemporary Art from the 1980s to the present. Over the years the gallery has continually evolved its program which since the 1980s includes artists such as Charline von Heyl, Günther Förg, Martin Kippenberger, Zoe Leonard, Albert Oehlen, Christopher Williams and Christopher Wool. Emerging and established artists including Barbara Bloom, Wade Guyton, Jacqueline Humphries as well as Marcel Odenbach, Laura Owens, Seth Price, Monika Sosnowska, and Kelley Walker were added to the program. In the most recent past Tobias Pils, sound artist Samson Young and Hiroki Tsukuda have joined the gallery. Galerie Gisela Capitain is the exclusive worldwide representative of the Estate of Martin Kippenberger since 1997. In October 2008 Gisela Capitain has opened a new, 1300 square meter space in a 1960s glass pavilion in Berlin in collaboration with Petzel Gallery, New York. In 2018 the gallery opened a second exhibition space in Cologne.
In 2016 Galerie Gisela Capitain celebrated its 30th anniversary with an exhibition of works by Martin Kippenberger. Together with
Günther Förg, Charline von Heyl, Zoe Leonard, Albert Oehlen, Stephen Prina, Franz West and Christopher Wool, Kippenberger belongs to
the first generation of artists who have shaped the gallery's program since its founding in 1986. In the 2000s Wade Guyton, Seth Price
and Laura Owens joined the program. Adding emerging as well as established artits, including Barbara Bloom, Richard Smith or Monika
Sosnowska, the gallery continually evolved its program. In recent years, Galerie Gisela Capitain extended its program with Japanese
artist Hiroki Tsukuda and Hong Kong based composer and sound artist Samson Young, followed by Peruvian artist Ximena
Garrido-Lecca and the Brisith artist Jadé Fadojutimi.
Galerie Gisela Capitain is the exclusive worldwide representative of the Estate of Martin Kippenberger since 1997.
