Country estate with miniature silver

Arnoldus van Geffen et al.

Silver 33 x 47 cm (13 x 18.5 in.) Amsterdam - Silver miniatures dating from the 17th and 18th century

On the east bank of the River Vecht in The Netherlands, lies Goudestein, an impressive country house. The seventeenth- and eighteenth-century silver miniatures standing at this recently made scale model of the mansion present a picture of the way people spent their summers at their country estates. We see, for instance, children playing, a fisherman and several fine carriages. The miniature well is the only one of its kind we know of and was made around 1700.
