A prototype single commission chair

Jean Dunand

(Lancy, 1877 - Paris, 1942)
Aluminum and black lacquer 78.7 x 48.2 x 49.5 cm (31 x 19 x 19.5 in.) New York - 1925

A prototype single commission black lacquer chair cast in one piece and of fluid sculptural form; with upholstered seat and aluminum sabots.

A letter from Bernard Dunand, dated April 11, 1986, confirms that this chair by his father is most probably unique. He describes this prototype as "made in sort of cement with the intention of creating the model for a chair which could be molded."
