Additional Information

This bozzetto is very close to a sketch by Egell, now in the Wallraf-Richartz Museum, Cologne (photograph of the drawing courtesy of the Wallraf-Richartz Museum).

“The little figures are masterly achievements of Egell and were barely surpassed. They demonstrate that true monumentality is independent of any measure of absolute dimensions, but instead purely founded in the imaginative powers and design skill of an artist” (Klaus Lankheit, loc. cit., p. 180).

Place of Creation
Mannheim

Probably from the Egeln´s family; Afterwards in the Grand Ducal private collections, Darmstadt; Private collection, Germany
