Douwes Fine Art
Douwes Fine Art offers Five centuries of paintings, works on paper and sculpture as well as restoration and valuation of: Dutch (including original Rembrandt prints), Flemish, French, Russian, Modern and non-European (including Africanists and contemporary Chinese) art.
The present day ‘Douwes’ art dealing and restoration firm was established in 1770 and the gallery was registered in 1805: it is the oldest single family art business in the world. Douwes Fine Art offers five centuries of paintings, works on paper and sculpture. Douwes Fine Art endeavours to provide expertise to a large public: buying, selling, consignment, expertise, valuations, restoration and research. We do this while maintaining consistently high-quality works of art in our collection.
Our unique and evolving collection of quality art is the result of over 240 years of expertise in buying art as well as our knowledge of the conservation and restoration of important works of art. Our present selection of five centuries of well-preserved pieces of art from all over the world are mostly on view in our gallery, located immediately next to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. We have also had galleries in London up to 1932, reopened in 1979 and active since.
Now in its 8th generation, Douwes Fine Art has been at the forefront and founding member of TEFAF, the Dutch national PAN Fair and many other important art initiatives. Due to the foresight to start an extensive art library system, Douwes was able to support the start of the RKD in the Hague, the foundation of the DeWitt library in London (now a part of the famous Courtauld Institute of Art), as well as contributing to the growing Getty Archives in Los Angeles.
