Japanese Fine Art (no period constraints)
SHIBUNKAKU was established in Kyoto in 1937. Cultivated by the thousand-year-old ancient imperial capital’s history and culture, we have developed a unique aesthetics for great art that transcend cultural and geographical borders, regardless of its period or genre. We first set out to specialize in early modern and modern Japanese fine art with an emphasis on calligraphy and painting, and later expanded our expertise to postwar and contemporary art. We constantly encourage thorough dialogues among art of different periods and media, which share the same timeless value, through our proposal of curation and presentation.
SHIBUNKAKU supports institutions’ and museums’ academic and research activities. Our works are acquired by collectors and museums worldwide, and are regularly lent to their important exhibitions.
