W&K-Wienerroither & Kohlbacher
Vienna 1900, German Expressionism, Viennese Actionism
W&K is one of the world's first addresses for artworks of Viennese Modernism particularly Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka. One of our major concerns is to communicate the international significance of 20th century Austrian art. It plays a leading role in psychoanalytical and body-centred art in particular. The pioneering achievements of Viennese Modernism and Viennese Actionism in this field have not yet been equalled in other countries. In addition, the gallery program includes German Expressionists like Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Otto Mueller, Erich Heckel, Franz Marc, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and international artists of classical modernism such as Pablo Picasso, Paul Cézanne, Lyonel Feininger or Joan Miro. At the representative rooms of the baroque Palais Schönborn-Batthyány W&K displays contemporary artists like Ross Bleckner, Elke Silvia Krystufek, Kurt Kocherscheidt, Franz West, Guenter Brus. Museums such as the Tate Gallery of Modern Art, the Louis Vuitton Fondation Paris and the Los Angeles Getty Museum, as well as Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum regularly cooperates on loan with W&K.
