It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Evert Douwes Sr, Founding Father of The European Fine Art Foundation.
Evert Douwes was a member of the Douwes dynasty and the 6th generation owner of the esteemed Douwes Fine Art Galleries. Through his profound knowledge of art and the art world, and his enormous energy and sophistication, Evert - as a Founding Father of the TEFAF Fair in Maastricht- became a driving force in the establishment of TEFAF Maastricht as an internationally successful and respected art fair.
Knowing how important a role art played in Evert Douwes’s life, he would have been extremely pleased and proud to see that one of his grandchildren Evert Anthony is taking an active interest in the running of the family business and will be representing the 8th generation in the Douwes dynasty.
TEFAF would not be where it is today without the vision, commitment, and passion of Evert Douwes, and the organisation is extremely grateful for all that he did as a Founding Father and participant at the Fair.
Evert will be greatly missed by our community and his name will be for ever linked with TEFAF.
