Van Gogh in Paris with Hammer Gallery

Howard Shaw from Hammer Gallery shares what Van Gogh would have most likely seen when he visited Paris in 1886. This period of Van Gogh’s life is pivotal to his works as an artist.
Founded in 1928 by industrialist and philanthropist Dr. Armand Hammer, the gallery quickly rose to prominence when, in the early 1930s, it exhibited the world-famous Imperial Easter Eggs by celebrated Russian court jeweler Karl Fabergé. After beginning with a primary focus on Russian art, Hammer soon shifted its focus to 19th and 20th century European and American Masters, which continues to be its focus today. Hammer typical presents curated thematic exhibitions at Tefaf such as “The Artist and the Model,” “Matisse & Picasso,” “The Modern Muse,” “Objects in Space: Léger, Miró, Calder,” and most recently, “van Gogh in Paris.”
“In my 40 year career I have participated in art fairs all over the world, in major cities such as New York, Miami, London, and Hong Kong. But there is something very special about TEFAF Maastricht, when the best of the best of all periods of art converges in this quaint little town in the Netherlands for eleven magical days. ”
