Modernity specialises in the collection and sale of rare and high-grade furniture, ceramics, glass, lighting and jewellery by the most renowned Scandinavian designers of the 20th century. Our large collection includes design classics by Hans Wegner, Finn Juhl, Arne Jacobsen, Alvar Aalto, Axel Salto, and Berndt Friberg – to name a few – but we are also proud to present outstanding unique pieces. With a strong emphasis on post-war design, Modernity has, throughout the years, established itself as one of the leading galleries in northern Europe.

Besides maintaining our much-frequented showroom in central Stockholm, Modernity has continuously supplied pieces to international collectors and museums, for example, to the MoMA and Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York, the LACMA in Los Angeles and the National Museum in Stockholm.

Modernity is a regular exhibitor at various international art and design fairs in London, New York, Paris and at home in Stockholm. Andrew Duncanson, the owner and director of Modernity, regularly holds lectures on issues surrounding 20th Century Design and is often called upon to advise private collectors. Andrew has been a jury member for the Swedish Design Association's annual exhibition at Stockholm's Museum of Architecture. He is also a member of the selection committee at the prestigious Pavilion of Art & Design fairs in London and Paris.
For our sixth participation at the fair, we will present a variety of furniture, lighting and textiles by the celebrated Nordic designers Josef Frank, Frits Henningsen, Carl Malmsten, Märta Måås-Fjetterström and Wilhelm Kåge among others.

We are especially proud to present two remarkable ‘Flora’ chests of drawers, model 1050, designed by Josef Frank—among his most celebrated works—alongside a rare Model 1020 table from Estrid Ericson’s personal collection. As 2025 marks the centenary of Svenskt Tenn, it feels especially timely to honour this milestone by showcasing such exceptional pieces from its history.

Amongst other highlights, we will present a pair of rare wingback chairs by Frits Henningsen, with estimates suggesting that only around fifty were ever produced. We will also show the ‘Meadows’ rug by Märta Måås-Fjetterström, originally commissioned for the interiors of the Swedish American Line’s M/S Kungsholmen.

For lighting pieces, we will bring a spectacular ceiling lamp by Paavo Tynell that was originally commissioned for Hotel Seurahuone in Savolina, Finland. There was only a limited number of this lamp made for the hotel. We will also bring a pair of Harald Notini ceiling lamp model "1555," designed by Notini in the 1940s featuring a shade made of ivory glass.
