About the Work

This pair of plaster vases was created by Alberto Giacometti for Albert Skira in 1944, when he was staying in Geneva during the WWII.

We purchased this unique pair from the family of the first owner.

During this period in Geneva Alberto Giacometti created few pieces and mainly small sculptures, drawings, texts.

Our examples are the larger pieces of art created by Giacometti during his Geneva stay, sculpted by the artist directly on the plaster. These works bear the Alberto Giacometti Committee numbers AG01 and AG02 on their bases and are listed in the Alberto and Annette Giacometti Foundation database under numbers 4734 and 4735.
