About the Work

Jasmin Sian works with pencil, gouache, and an X-Acto knife to produce intimately scaled works that explore flora and fauna through a refined interplay of ink and negative space. Working on found materials—book pages, candy wrappers, and intricately cut deli paper—she transforms everyday ephemera into highly resolved compositions. Drawing on both urban nature and remembered landscapes from her upbringing in the Philippines, she constructs meticulous miniature environments in which flora and fauna emerge through acts of cutting and subtraction, rewarding close and sustained looking with remarkable detail.

Her practice engages themes of transience, perception, and care while demonstrating a highly refined technical approach that belies the fragility of her materials.
