Collecting for the Public: The Fondazione Luigi Rovati, Milan
Giovanna Forlanelli Rovati and Lucio Rovati discuss how private collecting can be turned into a public mission, through the Fondazione Luigi Rovati, Milan.
Overview
Giovanna Forlanelli Rovati and her husband, Lucio Rovati, founded the Fondazione Luigi Rovati in Milan with the aim to create a museum that brings their Etruscan collection into a dialogue with modern and contemporary art. Spanning works from antiquity to the present, the foundation operates not only as an exhibition space but also offers educational initiatives, research, and loan programs, reflecting their commitment to public access.
The panel looks at the couple’s path from private collecting to public institution-building, and considers the broader question of how private collectors today share their collections with wider audiences.
