The Evolving Role of Private Museums
Leading voices from private museums explore how private museums balance legacy and innovation as their role in the cultural landscape continues to evolve
Overview
Private museums are redefining the cultural landscape, offering a space where personal vision, innovation, and heritage intersect. The first edition of the TEFAF Salon Talks series brought together three leadings voices from museums and private collections, each representing a different stage of institutional maturity: the established Vanhaerents Art Collection in Brussels, the recently opened FENIX Migration Museum in Rotterdam, and the forthcoming ZAMU Zaanstad Amsterdam Museum set to open in 2026.
The panel examines how collectors and cultural institutions honor their collections while shaping the future, navigating the interplay between new creative direction and legacy. From this, an overarching question emerges; how does the growing role of private collections evolve?
The TEFAF Salon Talk, in collaboration with Rosewood Amsterdam, marks the inaugural edition of a new series that unites distinguished voices from the worlds of luxury and art. The first talk is moderated by Georgina Adam, Editor-at-large at The Art Newspaper.
