International art and antiques fair to remain in Maastricht for the next ten years

Maastricht, September 8, 2026 — TEFAF (The European Fine Art Foundation) has reached an agreement with MECC Maastricht on the long-term continuation of the fair in Maastricht. The Province of Limburg and the Municipality of Maastricht are also involved. Under these arrangements, the world-renowned art, antiques and design fair will remain in Maastricht through 2036. The extension marks an important milestone in the longstanding partnership between TEFAF and MECC Maastricht. The current agreement runs through the 2027 edition; with this agreement in place, the parties are now laying the groundwork for a new agreement covering the period from 2027 through 2036.

Forty years in Maastricht

TEFAF has been held in Maastricht since 1988 and over that time has developed into one of the world’s leading fairs for art, antiques and design. The 39th edition in 2026 attracted more than 50,000 visitors from 75 countries, with 277 international art dealers presenting their collections over the eight-day fair.

Significant economic impact
Beyond its international profile, TEFAF makes a substantial contribution to the regional and national economy. The first TEFAF Economic Impact Report, produced in collaboration with Deloitte, shows that TEFAF Maastricht generates a total economic impact of €86.4 million in the Netherlands, €37.9 million of which is generated in Maastricht alone. This impact is felt across virtually every sector of the regional economy: hotels, restaurants, shops and transport providers benefit from the influx of visitors and exhibitors, while suppliers and service providers in stand construction, transportation, technical services, catering and security also benefit from the fair. Looking ahead to the 40th edition of TEFAF Maastricht in 2027, the parties expect the fair to give an even greater boost in the years ahead to the international visibility and appeal of Maastricht, Limburg and the Netherlands.

Maarten ten Holder, Managing Director, TEFAF:

“With our 40th anniversary in sight, we are proud that Maastricht will remain our home for the next ten years. We are grateful to MECC Maastricht, the Province of Limburg and the Municipality of Maastricht for their long-term vision, particularly in an international landscape where accessibility, infrastructure, hospitality and international appeal are becoming ever more decisive. This partnership gives TEFAF the scope to continue developing, firmly anchored in Maastricht. At the same time, our significance extends beyond the city and region: TEFAF is an international flagship for the Netherlands in the global art world.”

Manon van den Beuken, Director, TEFAF Maastricht:

“This renewed ten-year commitment means far more than an agreement alone: it reflects a shared belief in the future of TEFAF Maastricht and in the unique partnership we have built with MECC, the Municipality of Maastricht and the Province of Limburg. Together, we have created a home where art, culture and international excellence come together. We are delighted to continue on this path together for the next ten years.”

The next edition of TEFAF Maastricht will take place from March 13–18, 2027. TEFAF New York 2027 will take place from 14-18 may.

TEFAF New York also extended

TEFAF is likewise opting for continuity in New York: a new five-year agreement was recently signed, keeping TEFAF New York at the Park Avenue Armory through 2031. This means that both TEFAF Maastricht and TEFAF New York have secured their long-term venues.
