Buchmann Galerie is a contemporary art gallery in Berlin with a focus on painting , sculpture, drawing and photography. Representing a roster acclaimed mid-career and established artists creates a context for the gallery program and its own specificity of the exhibitions in collaboration with the artists. Works by the gallery artists are featured in prestigious collections worldwide, such as the MoMA New York, Centre Pompidou Paris, Tate London, Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin, Istanbul Modern Museum or the M+ Hong Kong.
Founded in Cologne in 1995, the gallery has had two adjacent exhibition spaces located in Berlin since 2005. Being an active part of the Berlin art community, Buchmann has been among the galleries inviting for the Gallery Weekend Berlin since 2007.
In recent years the gallery has placed many of the artists in exhibitions and projects at art institutions, like the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington DC, the Museum Hamburger Bahnhof Berlin, the MCA Australia Sydney, the Museum Haus Konstruktiv Zurich and many more.
Several of the gallery’s artists have been recognized with prestigious international art prizes; such as, the Turner Prize and the Praemium Imperiale, which has been awarded to three of the gallery’s artists.
Working closely with museums and public institutions, the gallery has placed works with, for example, the M+ in Hong Kong, the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney, the Nasher Sculpture Center Dallas, the Centre Pompidou Paris, or the Pinakothek der Moderne Munich.
André Buchmann has been a member of the board of the Cragg Foundation since 2008. The Buchmann Galerie has represented Tony Cragg as a sculptor since 1983 and exclusively represents the artist’s drawing archive. Many of the artists such as Wolfgang Laib, Bettina Pousttchi, Fiona Rae, Clare Woods or Tatsuo Miyajima have been represented by the gallery from an early stage in their careers.
