Art Market & Cultural Impact Reports

Since 2002, TEFAF has been involved in providing a program of independent research into the art market. TEFAF’s Art Market Reports provide an opportunity to shine a light onto an area of the market that is under-researched or in the process of change, and are considered an industry standard.

Alongside detailed reports on crucial issues in this sphere, the TEFAF Summit was established in 2024 as a platform for discussions and collaboration and to seek awareness and promote actionable solutions in art and culture.

Deloitte TEFAF Economic Impact Report 2026

The Economic Impact of TEFAF on Maastricht report undertaken by Deloitte Luxembourg highlights the substantial economic and social value generated by TEFAF Maastricht for the Maastricht region of the Netherlands. The findings demonstrate how the world’s leading art fair acts as a powerful economic engine, driving job creation, regional investment, and sustained economic activity. The report underscores the vital role that cultural initiatives play in strengthening local economies and delivering long-term impact beyond the fair itself.

For more than three decades, TEFAF has brought an exceptional concentration of artistic excellence, cultural exchange, commerce and International visibility to the city and region of Maastricht.

The report was presented at the TEFAF Summit 2026.

"This would not have been possible without the long-standing partnership and commitment we have enjoyed with the City of Maastricht and the Province of Limburg, whose support over all these years has been fundamental to the fair’s success. As TEFAF Maastricht has grown in scale and international significance, it has become increasingly important to clearly articulate the contribution of the arts - and of cultural events and arts foundations like TEFAF - at a local, regional, and international level.

While cultural impact is widely recognised, it is equally important to measure tangible economic and social effects, which is why we commissioned this independent report and why its findings will be presented at the TEFAF Summit on Monday 16 March.

We would like to thank Deloitte Luxembourg for conducting this thorough analysis, and we hope the findings will help inform policy and encourage greater investment in culture internationally. We are also deeply grateful to the whole TEFAF community of exhibitors, museums, collectors, and partners, whose continued engagement makes TEFAF - and its wider impact - possible." - Will Korner, TEFAF Head of Fairs

"Understanding the broader impact of major cultural events is increasingly important for cities, regions, and cultural ecosystems. TEFAF Maastricht is widely recognized as one of the world’s leading art fairs, bringing together galleries, collectors, and institutions from across the international art market. Hosted in Maastricht, the fair contributes to the city’s global visibility while generating cultural and economic activity across the wider region.

A deeper understanding of the role played by major cultural events is increasingly relevant. Exploring their economic, cultural, and societal dimensions highlights how large-scale art initiatives, such as TEFAF Maastricht, can contribute to local development, enhance international engagement, and sustain the relevance of the arts within contemporary society.

We are grateful to TEFAF for the opportunity to conduct this analysis and to contribute to the ongoing dialogue surrounding the relationship between art, finance, and cultural investment. We hope the findings will support informed discussion among policymakers, cultural institutions, and market participants, and encourage continued engagement with the arts as a driver of economic activity, cultural exchange, and international visibility." - Justin Morel de Westgaver, Partner Strategy and Business & Adriano Picinati di Torcello, Director Global Art and Finance

Art Patronage Report 2020

TEFAF’s annual Art Market Report provides an opportunity to shine a light onto an area of the market that is under-researched or in the process of change. Last year’s report on the Chinese Art Market provided a unique overview and insight into a rapidly changing and developing market.

The Chinese Art Market Report 2019

The increasing importance of the Chinese Art Market has been an acknowledged constant over many years now. The pace and scale of its growth, however, is something that was less foreseen. The fact that the Chinese Art Market overtook that of the US in 2011 according to the TEFAF Art Market Report 2012 might have surprised many.

Art Dealer Finance 2018

How do art dealers finance their day-to-day business activities? What sources are currently being used and what types of funding are available? How do these businesses, often with unpredictable sales patterns, sustain their financial health during the ups and downs of the art market cycle? These are aspects of the art business which are seldom discussed, hence very little information or data currently exists on this topic.
