About the Work

This artwork is part of Yeesookyung’s “Translated Vase” series, in which the South Korean artist repurposes discarded ceramic shards from traditional pottery, reassembling them with gold seams using the Japanese technique of kintsugi. By fusing broken fragments into new sculptural forms, Yeesookyung challenges notions of perfection, craftsmanship, and cultural heritage. The result is an organic, hybrid structure that transforms imperfection into beauty, embracing the history and flaws of each piece while questioning the rigidity of artistic traditions.
