About the Work

This octagonal tray perfectly illustrates "East meets West" aesthetic popular during the interwar period. It is made using traditional Japanese techniques of "urushi" lacquer and "same-nuri" shagreen, while aiming to achieve a classic Art Deco look through geometric patterns and an elegant black and red colour palette.

Provenance

Provenance: Fashion designer Kenzo Takada.

Literature
