Overview

2025 marks the centennial of Art Deco, following the first exhibition, Exposition internationale des artes décoratfs et industriels moderne held in Paris in 1925. To celebrate this movement, this panel will examine the movement’s lasting influence on contemporary design. Art Deco, once a symbol of modernity and elegance in the early 20th century, continues to captivate and inspire the design world today. The distinctive aesthetics, from geometric patterns to luxurious materials, have experienced a revival—as per the leading example in popularity of the Tiffany lamps—influencing a new generation of designers and artists.

Creating connections between the worlds of art and design, two leading experts, from the design world, Alyssa Kapito and Yana Mihailuka-Lefebvre will contribute their perspectives and reflect on how their practices work with or incorporate magnificent Art Deco masterpieces in contemporary settings.

TEFAF Talks are interactive panel discussions exploring today’s most fascinating topics in the worlds of art, antiques, and design. Paired with leading content partners, these talks showcase the knowledge of leading experts in the broader TEFAF community. This talk is presented in partnership with The World of Interiors and moderated by Ivan Shaw, Visuals Editor, The World of Interiors.
