Overview

The 2026 edition of the TEFAF Summit, presented in association with the Netherlands Commission for UNESCO, is taking place on March 16, 2026. As a platform for discussions and collaboration, the TEFAF Summit aims to seek awareness and promote actionable solutions in art and culture. 

 

The 2026 edition "Beyond Economic Impact: Rethinking Culture in Public Policy", explores culture’s transformative impact on the economy, social development, and health, and advocates for a stronger integration of the arts into public policy in the Netherlands and beyond. The program will feature panels and talks by 30 thought leaders, including international experts and policy advisors from across the public and private art sectors.

This panel highlights the role of culture as both a direct and indirect contributor to the national economy and explores culture’s influence on innovation, employment, and tourism, while challenging the tendency to measure its value solely through economic metrics. 

Showcasing national and international examples to rethink how cultural value is defined bridging economic, social, and human dimensions to build a more holistic understanding of culture’s role in national prosperity.

This session explores culture’s broader contribution to social development, diplomacy, and equality. It examines how cultural initiatives create inclusion, foster international collaboration, and strengthen the social fabric of societies. 

The conversation highlights best practice examples to leverage culture as a tool for soft power, education, sustainable development, and social cohesion.

Panel 3: Cultures Role for Health and Well-being 

The conversation explores the vital role of arts and culture in supporting health and wellbeing, highlighting how creative practices contribute to mental health, therapeutic processes, recovery, and rehabilitation. 

The discussion invites a broader understanding of cultural valueone that recognizes the profound human and social dimensions of the artsand considers how creativity fosters connection, resilience, and care in ways that reach far beyond traditional cultural and economic measures.

Panel 4: Reframing Cultural Investment: Towards a Social Cultural Ecosystem 

This session explores how we can reframe cultural investment to support a healthier, more resilient cultural ecosystem. It considers why messages about the social, economic, and human value of culture often fail to reach policymakersand which new strategies might help. 

The discussion challenges the tendency to reduce the arts to economic metrics, offering ways to depolarize funding debates and integrate culture into wider policy goals.

The Summit will take place at TEFAF Maastricht, Auditorium 2, MECC. Attendance to the conference is complimentary with the purchase of a ticket to TEFAF Maastricht. However, please note that registration is a mandatory requirement for participation.
