Known for her vibrant sensibility and approach to light and color, Marie Bracquemond (1840–1916) was a key figure among the women artists of her time, alongside Berthe Morisot and Mary Cassatt. Her work, particularly reflected in paintings like Paysage à la ruelle (1885–1895), demonstrates her deep understanding of natural light, capturing its fleeting beauty with a delicate yet bold touch. In Paysage à la ruelle, Bracquemond paints with a gentle vibrancy, mirroring the light-shifting scenes of Claude Monet’s Meules series. The interplay of light and shadow across the facades, trees, and ground echoes her admiration for Monet, whom she always regarded as a favorite master.
