When the 37th edition of TEFAF Maastricht opens its doors in March, visitors can expect an exceptional schedule of talks, events, and tours. Comprising TEFAF Talks, the inaugural TEFAF Summit, and TEFAF Meet the Experts, the fair provides opportunities for visitors to immerse themselves in an informative program featuring globally renowned thought leaders from the world’s most esteemed cultural institutions.

COLLECTOR TALKS

Collecting with Intent: The Purpose and Impact of Building a Collection

Featuring two prominent collectors, this discussion will explore the motivations behind collecting art, from personal passions or aesthetic interests to supporting contemporary artists or continuing a family legacy. Presented by AXA XL.

Bridging the Gap: Cultivating the Next Generation’s Passion for Old Masters and Beyond

March 8, 3PM

The tastes of the next generation of collectors often gravitate towards modern and contemporary works. This panel will discuss the more traditional collecting categories, posing the crucial question of how to appeal to this burgeoning group of collectors. Presented by Financial Times.

The Thrill of the Chase: Stories of Great Discoveries in Art

The internet has democratized collecting, but with an ever-growing number of participants, it remains fraught with pitfalls, including provenance and authenticity. Three connoisseurs of contemporary collecting share their stories and advice on securing that elusive, almost sacred piece. Presented by Artnet.

Conversations on Conservation: Ludovico Mazzolino’s Crossing of the Red Sea

The National Gallery of Ireland has received funding from TEFAF to conserve Ludovico Mazzolino’s masterpiece. Too fragile to display at present, the discussion will center around its conservation and a greater understanding of Mazzolino’s artistic practice. Presented by ICOM-CC.

The Role of Pattern and Ornament in Interior Design Today

A distinguished panel of experts in interior design, design history, and decorative arts will explore how historical ornamentation traditions shape and inspire contemporary design. Presented by The World of Interiors.

The Enduring Relevance of Frans Hals: The Dutch Golden Age and Today

March 10, 3PM

Against renewed focus on Frans Hals, thanks to a major exhibition at the National Gallery of London and now the Rijksmuseum, this panel will explore the artist’s story and revisit his legacy, including his influence upon the Impressionists and why his work feels so very modern. Presented by Apollo Magazine.

TEFAF Summit, March 11, 9AM–2PM CET

Presented in association with the Netherlands Commission for UNESCO and supported by AXA XL, the TEFAF Summit is a platform for discourse and collaboration that explores the challenges and threats faced by our cultural heritage and the opportunity it provides to foster peace, raise awareness, and suggest solutions. The event brings together esteemed thought leaders from art, academia, government, and NGOs to engage in conversations on critical issues related to cultural heritage.

TEFAF Talks comprise interactive panel discussions to build and challenge conceptions of art history, collecting, and the art market.
