About the Work

A Chinese grey pottery figure of a horse standing four-square. The elegantly shaped head looks straight forward, with protruding eyes and flaring nostrils. The mouth, with an accentuated lower lip, is wide open revealing the teeth.

The black painted body has remains of white and red pigments, especially around the mouth, nostrils and the reins and trappings. The legs are well modelled revealing the muscles and hooves. The separate bound tail is placed in an opening in the hind-quarters of the horse.
