About the Work

Charles Green Shaw's distinctive fusion of Modernist influences, drawing from Cubism, Surrealism, and Non-Objectivity stood out for its delicate textures, experimentation of forms, and defined colors. Shaw’s “Silent Night” (1943) reflects the influence of his contemporary Milton Avery through its simplified forms and is a rare early example of his representational work.
