About the Work

Lost since the artist’s death, "Study for Les Cours de la Seine" is the preparatory drawing for the decoration of the Bar-Fumoir in Palais de Chaillot commissioned in 1936 by the French Government. As the final painting, conserved in Musée de Beaux-Arts de Rouen, this vibrant and beautifully preserved work consists of three panels of 120 x 100 cm each. Recently rediscovered, it will be shown to the public for the first time during TEFAF Maastricht 2026.
