About the Work

Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, 1874, Joaquín Torres-García was a talented painter, muralist, illustrator, sculptor, theorist and academic. This great drawing by Torres-García is inspired by the infamous portrait of Francisco de Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828), from his series of engravings, ‘Los Caprichos’.
