About the Work

In this rare 1926 gouache, Sophie Taeuber-Arp radically reinvents the landscape genre, turning the Montmartre Cemetery into a quasi-abstract geometric composition.

This work was exhibited in the major retrospective dedicated to the artist, titled “Living Abstraction,” at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Kunstmuseum Basel in 2021–2022.
