About the Work

This new addition to the catalogue of Paolo de San Leocadio is a spectacular example of the early Renaissance in Valencia. The refined quality and outstanding condition makes it a master jewel for any collector. The scene is amazingly complex with extremely detailed figures, highlighted in gold and set in a dramatic landscape.

Due to its importance, condition and superb quality, it is non exportable from Spain.

Provenance

Probably painted for the private chapel of the Palacio Ducal for Doña Maria Enriquez de Luna, duquesa de Gandia.

Literature

The authorship has been fully endorsed by the leading scholars in the artist, including Joan Molina from the Prado Museum and Ximo Company, author of the monographic catalogue and former director of the Museo de San Pio V of Valencia.
It is being shown at the moment in the first monographic exhibition at the Museo de Castellon and will be included in its forthcoming catalogue.
