About the Work

A ring set with an unusual old-mine round Colombian emerald, encircled by a frame of reverse-set rose-cut diamonds, takes inspiration from Mughal archer’s rings, traditionally elongated to protect the fingers while releasing the bowstring. These rings were often crafted from gold or jade and lavishly adorned with gemstones, with intricate enamelling applied to the reverse or inside of the piece—a testament to the craftsman’s skill and attention to hidden detail. The body of the ring is adorned with reverse set rose cut diamonds, set into darkened titanium to enhance their subtle shimmer against the deep green of the Colombian emerald.

These rings became insignia of royalty at court and are frequently depicted in portraits of emperors such as Jahangir and Shah Jahan. This heritage is reinterpreted in the design of the ring, which combines practicality and artistry, with the shape of the original thumb ring inspiring the framing and setting of the emerald. The careful alignment of diamonds and the warm rose-gold interior reflect centuries of Mughal precision, allowing the ring to communicate its history through subtle detail and expert execution.
