About the Work

Kan Yasuda’s poignant works are made with a deep love and understanding of his material, essentially trying to discover the “truths” of both nature and humanity that are embedded and hidden within organic forms that seemingly beg to be touched, felt, and interacted with. The work Myomu (loosely translated as Mysterious Dream) is no different. Yasuda takes his pure white marble from the same stone quarries in Pietrasanta as Michelangelo during the Renaissance, using the same stone guilds that have existed for centuries. With the assistance of master stone craftsman Giorgio Angeli, who also assisted Noguchi with his creations, Yasuda sculpts forms that blend into their intended environs, seemingly erasing the borders between time, space, and the borders that we put in place upon ourselves. The artist’s works are meant to be felt and touched, and are shorn to the very bare essence of the material

itself. It is this interactive dialogue that Yasuda brings about between the viewer and an artwork further melts away the boundaries between art, nature, time, and the existence that is our very humanity, thereby uniting these elements under the serene harmonies of Kan Yasuda and his poetry in stone.
