About the Work

A bodice ornament with classical scenes: a grotesque masque on the top bow and probably Venus and Cupid in the central medallion. The jewel follows Spanish models and it is finely carved in coral, in several pieces attached to a silver plate with silver wire. Ring on the top suggests that there was a third element previously attached. A later pin was added to use it as a brooch: although it can be easily removed, we have decided to maintain it, allowing the wearer to use it in a more contemporary fashion.

The piece has undergone a process of cleaning and a restoration report is available for consultation.
